Mission: Find a Hobby

I've been feeling rather hobby-less. A few weeks ago I spent a large chunk of time in the car with a friend who has seemingly millions of hobbies, and I felt left out and unfulfilled. This has happened before, that feeling of being left out, and it ended up with me learning that I hated running AFTER I had signed up for a 10K. I learned my lesson, and I knew I had to take this feeling of having no hobbies and move very slowly so as not to get ahead of myself again. My first hobby was baking, but I was forced asked to curb that hobby for the time being.

So then I had to go find another hobby, and hobby find I did. It's an addictive one. One that is relatively inexpensive and very useful. I discovered my new hobby this weekend, and I can't tell you exactly what it is right now because I don't have appropriate photo documentation of the outcome of my hobby, but once I take some pictures, I'll show you and share my new hobby with the world. The image to the right is a little sneak peek... can you guess what my new hobby is?! If you follow me on twitter, you probably already know!

What are some of your hobbies? I'd consider mine to be reading, watching TV, cooking the same recipes over and over again, couponing, organizing, tweeting, and my new top secret hobby. Do you have "normal" hobbies or are yours a little more original? Are they time consuming, or quick fixes for when you have a few spare hours? I'm so fascinated by what other people find fun, interesting, and pleasurable!

  1. This is a great post :)

Here are the things I like to do.
    1. Reading.
    2. Writing. I like blogging because I like refining ways to describe or express something, even if it's ordinary. It's good practice. I'd be happy writing a really nice blog. So far my wordpress blog is dormant because I am unhappy with it, but I'd like to revive it at some point.
    3. Music - I love exploring new music and seeing live music. I spend a lot of time on music blogs.
    4. Urban exploration -- I plan to explore my city by working in concentric circles -- I'll start with my new neighborhood, then work outward until I've explored all of new york and the boroughs. I want to dedicate 1 weekend to each neighborhood, and I'll spend Saturday and Sunday there, eating, shopping, hanging out, drinking, etc. When I'm done, I want to explore underground -- there are big networks of tunnels and abandoned subways, etc.
    5. Exercising (biking)
    6. Personal finance/investing
    7. Planning my around-the-world trip in 4 years
    8. I like playing the violin but I always feel guilty for playing in my apartment. I ultimately want to get a keyboard and plug it into my mac and listen/record on there. that is my long-term hobby but it requires a lot of startup costs, so I haven't taken steps to do this yet.\
    9. I also really like photography and taking pictures with my holga. Right now I'm making a photography project as a surprise for someone.

If I had more hours in the day I would probably take piano lessons, and I would write freelance articles and short fiction and then submit it to various publications for fun, to see if anything ever gets published.
