Eating Organic

A friend recently posted a link to this article, discussing which fruits and vegetables are the most important to buy organically (because the most pesticides and chemials are used) and which are the least important to buy organically.

I am not an organic shopper. I consider it a successful day if I have consumed something green, not because I don't like green things, but because eating healthy is hard, and it takes up valuable time. I am also not an organic shopper because I find that, more often than not, buying organic is more expensive, and in my experience, the produce goes bad faster. But, because I'm open to other's opinions and suggestions, I thought I'd post the contents of this article in list form for the whole world to see. And who knows, maybe I'll convince myself by the end of the article to buy organic something.

What you should buy organic:
Celery
Peaches
Strawberries
Apples
Domestic blueberries (not foreign... domestic only please.)
Nectarines
Sweet bell peppers
Spinach, kale and collard greens
Cherries
Potatoes
Imported grapes (the fine grapes grown in the US are a-okay!)
Lettuce

What you could get away with not buying organic:
Onions
Avocados
Sweet corn
Pineapples
Mango
Sweet peas
Asparagus (really? PHEW!)
Kiwi fruit
Cabbage
Eggplant
Cantaloupe
Watermelon
Grapefruit
Sweet potatoes
Sweet onions

So there you have it folks. If I were to be an organic shopper, I think I would buy organic eggs, strawberries, blueberries, rasperries, celery, and meats. But alas, I am not. As I commented to my friend, it's just not in my priorities right now. I think it's great for other people, and I will happily eat organically at my friends houses ifi that is how they choose to cook, but they will be eating chicken & pesticided veggies at my casa. Anybody want to come over for dinner tomorrow night?

PS - I'm feeling incredibly guilty for not buying organically. Just thought you should know I guilt-tripped myself.

DIY Headboard

I know it's only Monday, but I already know what my week and weekend will hopefully involve. This week, I plan to frequent JoAnn Fabrics, Hancock Fabrics, Lewis & Sheron, Home Depot, and maybe a Wal-Mart or two to pick up all the supplies I will need to make my own tufted headbaord. I will be using that link as a guide, and with the help of my dear friend and excellent crafter Rachel, an equally awesome looking headboard will be at the head of my bed by next Sunday.

These colors are my inspiration. The blue color (crashing waves) is what I want to paint my bathroom, or maybe a shade lighter. Then I want to paint my bedroom walls the shortbread color, which is the yellow on the bottom right corner, and I plan to incorporate chocolate brown as much as I can. My furniture is currently a dark cherry wood, and I think finding a chocolate brown fabric for the headboard will go perfectly! Maybe I can even find some patterned fabric to glue on to the buttons to give the headboard a little pizzazz!

So, my first step is to figure out what height I want my headboard to be. Tricky. Then I have to go to Home Depot and have them cut the plywood. Then I have to get it home (which I think is going to be trickier than it sounds)! I also need to decide how I am going to mount this sucker to the wall, if I am even going to mount it to the wall. I think yes, which requires buying a stud finder (it will actually be the 2nd stud finder I purchase, as the first went as a gift to my ex. Bummer!), and some brackets to get it to stay up. Then I've got to get the fabric, the batting, the foam, the spray adhesive... so many things to purchase, but I think this will be fun, and a very satisfying project.

After I finish the headboard, I plan to move quickly into my bathroom and get that paint job out of the way. Once I get the space painted, I will be more motivated to start incorporating other things from my color scheme, such as rugs, paintings, possibly a new shower curtain, and some tchotchke things to put on my over-the-toilet shelf. I may even change out that bad boy, although it really isn't all that old.

This whole interior decoration thing is addicting.

Why I Shouldn't Have Free Time, part 1 of approximately 89043280432.

It's Saturday morning. I'm "snowed-in." I've been up since 7:30am (damn you, corporate America, for not allowing me to sleep in), and the DVR is in the other room, where the internets apparently can't reach. It's Valentine's Day weekend and I am without Valentine. (This is all very ok, it just explains my lack of something better to do!) So what do I do?

Start/continue planning my honeymoon. Yes, I've started this process before. Nope, I'm not engaged. Not planning to be. Not even in a relationship. Not even attempting to be in a relationship. I don't even know the last time I went on a date. But yep - planning my honeymoon. It's gonna be an expensive one.

I want to go to one of the Tahitian islands. I want to stay in a villa that sits atop the ocean and has glass-bottom floors. I want an infinity pool. A private infinity pool. I guess I'll have to pick between glass-bottom floors and infinity pool, but maybe I can find somewhere that has both. I want beach. Lots of private, white, beautiful, warm beach. I don't want to be able to see my neighbors canoodling on their balcony... I don't want to see anyone else canoodling at all. I don't want to see any ONE at all. Except for the delightful ladies and gentlemen who will cook delicious lobsters and bring warm fresh towels. I want 7 days in extreme bliss. Bliss that I will never forget for the rest of my life. Nevermind that I hate flying. Nevermind that I will more than likely have to get on an airplane that seats approximately 2 people. Guess what? I'd do it all and then some if it meant I was going to stay at a bungalow with glass-bottomed floors and a canopy king size bed and swimming access off my balcony in the lagoon and all the other fantastic, memorable, beautiful things these islands have to offer.

As I've been finding pictures, I even entertained the idea of eloping to these islands and getting married here sans big wedding, sans family, all of it, that's how badly I want it. For those of you that know me... this isn't even an option, but I'm making it one. Only for you, most beautiful and luxurious Bora Bora. I want to come and visit you. I want to explore everything you have to offer. I want to swim in your oceans and sleep on your beaches and shop in your shops and dine in your restaurants and explore your every surface.

Maybe one day.... for now, I'll add it to my Travel Bucket List and hope that some man loves me enough to take me here, eventually. But sooner rather than later.
